Wellness Identity- Allowing Flexibility

Throughout my journey with multiple sclerosis I see the biggest factor in my recovery and wellness is the inner relationship. When I became diagnosed I allowed myself to change who and what I do completely. I notified my friends and family I allowed myself to change in whatever way I needed. Some relationships did not make it through yet some bolstered because of compassion and understanding. Ultimately it is for growth and wellness. Allow yourself to be flexible, change, and that may include disappointing others to gain trust with yourself.
The diagnoses of MS is coming up on 10 years for me. 10 long years of learning, setbacks, and recovery. Two years ago I had my second flare up, became hospitalized, and still have lingering symptoms. As I continue to grow and know myself I learned the boundaries that were on the brink of an MS exacerbation. I still honor and practice being flexible and changing whatsoever I think is needed for a complete recovery. I lost friends, I let go of jobs, and I left college. I recently I left my favorite Toastmasters group and nonprofit all to aid in my recovery. The new boundary I created from my most recent flare up tells me what it feels like when I am getting close to another one.
It is a rough decision to have to let go of things you want for yourself because a life circumstance allows it no other way. For those going through similar experiences it is my intention that you receive some self love and care by reading this. Know and trust all the decisions you are making for a healthy, well, happy you. Let go of the layers that are piled on of the "should of", "could of", "if" and other hypotheticals. MS is an incurable disease and you must remain flexible to achieve your goals. In no way does this mean you have to give up on your dreams.
